State Auditor Stacey Pickering said in a news release that Lori Young surrendered this past week to the Winston County Sheriff's Office.
He said Young was indicted on one count of embezzlement for allegedly taking $15,833.
Pickering said Young was served a demand for $28,917 which included investigative costs, interest, and other costs of recovery.
The indictment alleges Young took money from the Nanih Waiya Attendance Center by not depositing all of the funds that had been given to her by teachers and club sponsors and altering cash sheet records to cover the stolen cash.
Young served as the Nanih Waiya school secretary from January of 2006 to March of 2010.
