Former Ashford Academy headmaster surrenders on embezzlement charges

The former headmaster of Ashford Academy sought for embezzling about $37,000 from the school surrendered to authorities just before lunch Friday.
A Houston County Jail spokesperson confirmed Douglas John Bauer turned himself in about 11:00 a.m. and is awaiting processing.
Bauer is charged with nine counts of possession of a forged instrument 3rd degree, 3 counts of theft of property 2nd degree, 6 counts theft of property 3rd degree, and 8 counts Theft of Property 4th degree.
Bauer spent about two years at the school that closed in May, 2015 due to financial problems.
He was apparently out of state when the charges were filed.
Bauer will likely be released on bond later Friday.
