Employee accused of embezzling $55,000 from north Charlotte church

Police are investigating a case of embezzlement involving a church in Charlotte's University City area.

The alleged incidents involved an employee at University City United Methodist Church located at 3835 West W.T. Harris Boulevard.
We found two reports on file with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
One report says $5,000 was embezzled between August 1, 2008, and June 20, 2011.
The second report says an additional $50,000 was embezzled between January 1, 2010, and June 20, 2011.
The police reports were filed with CMPD on Wednesday, August 3.
A police spokesman said the suspect has been identified, but had not been charged as of Thursday afternoon.
