Ex-PTO president given probation for embezzlement charge in Oklahoma

FROM TULSAWORLD.COM -

A former president of the Parent Teacher Organization at Skiatook's Marrs Elementary School pleaded guilty Monday to embezzling PTO funds.

Kara McBride was put on probation for five years on a felony embezzlement charge.

In accordance with a plea agreement, Tulsa County Special Judge David Youll made no finding of guilt and deferred sentencing for five years. That means McBride, 36, can have the case dismissed without a conviction if she completes her probation.

Youll ordered her to pay $5,350 in restitution.

McBride, who under the plea deal is not required to serve any jail or prison time, must also pay $1,078 in court-related costs and assessments, records show.

McBride was originally charged in February with embezzling $6,677 from the PTO at the Skiatook school between May 2009 and Jan. 6, 2011. The restitution requirement is below the amount listed in the charge because it was determined that some of the money at issue was used for legitimate PTO purposes, attorneys indicated.

McBride was released on bond after being charged.
