IOW school district investigated for alleged embezzlement in Virginia

The Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday was asked to investigate an alleged case of embezzlement at the school district, according to the department’s daily log.
Sheriff’s Office Spokeswoman Kristin Wilda said Friday the case remained under investigation.

“We have no information to release at this time,” Wilda said.

School district spokesperson Kenita Bowers was instructed by Superintendent Katrise Perara not to comment.

“We cannot comment because it is a personnel matter and it’s being investigated by the sheriff’s department,” Bowers said.

If charges are filed, the information will be made public, she said.

When contacted, Hardy District School Board Member Herb DeGroft said he knew nothing about the investigation, but planned to look into it
