Former Lions Education Foundation treasurer accused of embezzlement in California

The former treasurer of the Lions Education Foundation was arrested today in El Dorado County, accused of embezzling more than $275,000 from the nonprofit organization.
The El Dorado County District Attorney's Office announced the arrest of Kent Maloney (pictured), 69, of Diamond Springs. The funds allegedly were embezzled over a period of seven years from the Lions Education Fund, which is associated with Lions Club International.
The DA's Office noted that according to the foundation's website, its budget is allocated to youth and education, with no administrative costs, and 100 percent of all monies going directly to support youth programs.
The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office investigated the case with the assistance of the District Attorney's Office. During the investigation, detectives discovered a hidden account that Maloney allegedly used to conceal the illegal activity from the nonprofit organization, according to a District Attorney's Office news release.
Maloney was booked into El Dorado County Jail and was being held in lieu of $250,000 bail.
