Former school employee accused of embezzling more than $96,000 in Michigan


The retired Mason County Eastern Schools business manager has waived his preliminary hearing.
Robert Bacon is being accused of embezzling more than $96,000 from the school district while he was working as business manager.
His case will now be sent to circuit court.
A new court date has not been set yet.

Robert Crane Bacon, 67, 2917 E. U.S. 10, Custer, worked as Mason County Eastern’s business director for many years and he’s now charged with embezzling nearly $100,000 from the school district between 2003 and Dec. 31, 2011.

Bacon was arraigned on charges in 79th District Court Jan. 18 and waived his district court preliminary exam Feb. 25 and was bound over for trial in 51st Circuit Court.
He was scheduled to appear in circuit court Tuesday for a formal arraignment on the embezzlement charges, but instead waived that formality. Bacon is charged with one count of embezzlement $50,000 to $100,000, which is a felony punishable by up to 15 years in prison; and one count of embezzlement by a public official, a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.Police allege he took slightly more than $96,000.His bond was set at $15,000 and he was released on personal recognizance
