PTO president is accused of embezzling thousands of dollars raised by bake
sales from a Columbus charter school.
Eastland Performance Academy, on the city's southeast side, reported $2,500
dollars missing from the PTO bank account and according to police reports the
account was overdrawn by $1,600.
Columbus police are investigating and they tell NBC4's
Denise Alex that so far, no one has been charged.
School officials say the PTO president missed several PTO meetings, pulled
her kids from the school and hasn't return phone calls since the missing money
was uncovered.
"If she went through and misspent funds that were raised for kids to go on
field trips then obviously she needs to go to jail or at least pay that money
back," said Toby Pinkerton of Eastland Performance Academy.
Pinkerton says the school elected a new president and treasurer Wednesday
night. The management company for the academy plans to cover the cost for the
field trips and the 8th grade graduation.
